Erev Shabbat
29 November

Our weekly Erev Shabbat activities start with our two "Den" services in their usual time slots as listed in our "Regular Activities" section.

Sing With Us Special - Noah Aronson
(17:15-18:00) The opportunity to prepare for Shabbat by singing with Jewish singer and songwriter, Noah Aronson (www.noaharonson.com).

Erev Shabbat Meditation: A breath of Shabbat
(17:15-18:15) Welcoming Shabbat with gentle movement, mindful breath and vocal meditation.

Erev Shabbat Service
(18:30-19:30) Our regular Friday night service. Led by Rabbi Josh, Rabbi Hannah and special guest Noah Aronson. The service will include the Hadracha graduation.

Hadracha Graduation
(18:30-21:30) Our Year 10 leaders have completed their basic training and are now welcomed into the wider leadership body of our community. Join us for a special Erev Shabbat service celebrating their journey and step up into the next stages of Jewish adult life. 
There will be a chavurah supper to follow for all family members of the graduates. Please email mike@alyth.org.uk to confirm who will be attending.

 

Shabbat Morning
30 November

Shabbat Service
(10:30-12:15) A ‘Kollot’ style service. Led by Rabbi Josh and Justin Wise. With an area for children. Includes the Bar Mitzvah of Sam Gatty.

Service for Wellbeing
(10:30-12:15) Using our Shabbat liturgy, readings and song, join Lynette, for a service that focuses on our physical and mental wellbeing and which helps us to restore the balance in our lives.

Sensory Shabbat
(11:00-12:00) Our Shabbat experience designed to stimulate your babies’ senses in the first years of their life. Join Rabbi Hannah and Chloe in this service where you and your baby can touch, see, smell, hear and taste your way through the service. Suitable for babies from birth to 2 years. Be mindful that this is a quiet experience.

Wednesday 4 December

Multi-faith Hustings at Alyth
(20:00-21:30) 
Alyth, in conjunction with Golders Green Parish Church and Interfaith Matters, is delighted to host a special multi-faith hustings for the Finchley and Golders Green Constituency. All of the candidates for the Finchley and Golders Green Parliamentary seat will be with us. Mike Freer (Conservatives), Ross Houston (Labour) and Luciana Berger (Liberal Democrats) have all confirmed their attendance.

We are now fully booked.  Please email saskia@alyth.org.uk to add your name to the waiting list. We will have to turn away people on the evening who have not received confirmation that they have a seat.

Thursday 5 December

Pardes: with Student Rabbi Tali Artman
(13:00-14:15) Our weekly text-based study group.  Student Rabbi Dr Tali Artman will be teaching the class throughout December. Together we will explore martyrdom through reading Babylonian Talmud Avodah Zarah.

Post University & Gap Year Fair
(18:30) Join us for the Masa Israel Alyth Gap Year Fair on Thursday 5 December from 18:30-21:00. Come and visit stands from organisations such as Shnat Netzer, Hebrew University, Israel Experience and many more. To sign up, please contact saskia@alyth.org.uk

Friday 6 December

Baby Den
(10:30-11:30) Wake up with Shoshi the Sheep to sing songs, be with friends and bop to a Shabbat beat. Our musical Baby Den, this week with Chloe, is designed to help your little one develop creativity, co-ordination and concentration.

Shabbat Den
(16:15-17:00) For pre-schoolers and their families with Rabbi Hannah and Chloe. Join us for songs, stories and to meet new friends at Alyth’s Shabbat Den.

Erev Shabbat Service
(18:30-19:30) Our regular Friday night service. Led by Rabbi Josh.  The Dvar Torah will be given by Chloe Kimmel to mark leaving Alyth's staff team.

Saturday 7 December

Shabbat Service
(10:30-12:15) A choral service, led by Rabbi Hannah with the Alyth choir. Includes the Bar Mitzvah of Albert Selby and Bat Mitzvah of Skye McDowall-Smith.

Tefillah Lab: Study Service
(10:30-12:15) Join Student Rabbi Dr Tali Artman for a special study service from Eretz Yisrael in the late antiquity period.  We will use Genizah fragments and modern research to guide us through the service. 
As well as training for the rabbinate, Tali is also an associate lecturer at the Faculty of Divinity at the University of Cambridge, as well as teaching Rabbinic Literature at Leo Baeck College.​​​​​​

Young Family Seudah
(15:00-16:30) Following the release of the second Frozen movie, come and watch the original film with Rabbi Hannah and Chloe. Smash your way through icicles to find hidden treasure with Anna, use ice paints to create your own magical kingdom with Elsa, and build your very own snowman with Olaf. We will eat our delicious Shabbat tea and do all our activities whilst singing along to Frozen.

Sunday 8 December

Alyth Choral Society Concert: Elijah
(18:30) ACS perform Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah. Tickets cost £18 (including refreshments) and can be purchased from alythchoralsociety@gmail.com. For more information go to www.alythchoralsociety.org.

Do you have a child in Yr 5?

Do you have a child in Year 5 who will celebrate Bar or Bat Mitzvah in 2022/23?

If so, you should have received a letter inviting you to a preliminary meeting on Sunday 8 December (11:00-12:00) to talk to us about the allocation of a date for your child’s Bar or Bat Mitzvah in 2021/2022. 
If you have not received this letter please contact beth@alyth.org.uk as a matter of urgency.

Community News

We regret to announce the death of:

Alyth Kindergarten Assistant

Monday to Friday 9:15-12:15 from January to July 2020 
 
This is an exciting opportunity for an assistant to join our outstanding kindergarten and our dedicated team from January 2020.

You need to be passionate about young children and their development, creative, energetic, enthusiastic and reliable. No formal teaching qualifications needed (£10.55 per hour).
