Join us this Rosh Chodesh to meet Professor Uri Shanas, founder and director of TiME (This is My Earth). TiME is a global charity that works to buy and preserve natural habitats and protect endangered species around the world. In his talk, Professor Shanas will describe how the idea was conceived, the success, the challenges, the future goals, and why protecting Earth is our most urgent matter. COMING UP - THE ALYTH CHAVRUTA PROJECT
The Book of Jonah Thursdays 24 & 31 August, 7 & 14 September, 19:00-20:15
The Alyth Chavruta Project returns in Elul for a four-week course on the book of Jonah, the traditional haftarah reading on Yom Kippur afternoon. Each week we will encounter a chapter, alongside traditional, modern and artistic interpretations of the text. All levels of experience are welcome.
If you have someone in mind who you would like to study with, or if you would like us to try to find a study partner for you, please let us know. The text packs will be sent out each Friday, and we will come together as a group each Thursday at 19:00 at Alyth and online. Contact elliott@alyth.org.uk for more informaion.

ISRAEL TRIP 2023 The Hidden History of Northern Israel Sunday 29 October – Thursday 2 November 2023
Join us for an exploration of the hidden history of Northern Israel dating back almost 900,000 years. Together with experts from the region and Rabbi Elliott we will discover and learn about the rich history of the area including two important pre-history sites, a Roman Temple, ancient synagogues, burial grounds of some of our most revered teachers and more recent sites of interest.
Staying in Kibbutz Hotel accommodation, we will travel by air conditioned coach to visit highlights including the archaeological sites of Ein Keshatot, Magdala Synagogue, Nimrod Fortress and Beit Shearim National Park – the burial site of some of most ancient revered teachers.
Cost: £1,850 per person excluding flights (Cost includes: accommodation for all nights in standard rooms, 3 meals a day, travel by air-conditioned bus, experienced licensed tour guides, a medic/guard, entrance fees to all sites, emergency medical insurance and public liability insurance)

The High Holy Days this year start in the middle of September. You will receive tickets and an overview of our schedule in the post the week commencing 21 August. If you have not received them by 1 September, please contact the office on 020 8457 8794 or email alythadmin@alyth.org.uk. Tickets and the overview schedule will not be sent to members who have not yet paid their 2022-23 membership fee. To settle your subscription, please call Deborah on 020 8457 8794. We will not be posting a detailed programme this year for reasons of cost and the environment. This will be available online from 21 August. Printed copies will be available by request from Alyth.
