Pardes: Why should progressive Jews observe Tisha B’Av?
For a long time, progressive Jews have felt uncomfortable about mourning for the destruction of the Temple, and Alyth did not observe Tisha B’Av until 1991. Join Student Rabbi Nicola as she leads us through some of the themes of Tisha B’Av through some of the less well-known texts in Jewish tradition, which may provide us with some compelling reasons why progressive Jews may in fact want to continue to mark Tisha B’Av. The course will culminate on Thursday 27 July with a special study service, including the reading of Lamentations.
Today's session: Because of our sins Why was the First Temple destroyed?
