Niles is the spiritual leader of Congregation Beth Shalom of Napa Valley. He is an award-winning author of books including 'Gonzo Judaism', 'God at the Edge' and 'The Challenge of the Soul'. His latest book is called 'Eight Questions of Faith'. Niles will deliver the D’var Torah and Sermon in our shabbat services on Friday 30 July and Saturday 1 July. On Saturday 1 July at 09:15, he will teach a special shiur on Three Jewish Models of Leadership. LEARN WITH US IN PERSON AND ONLINE Pardes: Why should progressive Jews observe Tisha B’Av? For a long time, progressive Jews have felt uncomfortable about mourning for the destruction of the Temple, and Alyth did not observe Tisha B’Av until 1991. Join Student Rabbi Nicola as she leads us through some of the themes of Tisha B’Av through some of the less well-known texts in Jewish tradition, which may provide us with some compelling reasons why progressive Jews may in fact want to continue to mark Tisha B’Av.
