The first ‘Alyth’ service was held on Friday night, 16 June 1933, at 2 Meadway, NW11. To celebrate, we are delighted to present 10 days of special events in June. At the heart of our celebration will be a special anniversary service, taking place exactly 90 years to the day of the first service, on Friday 16 June 2023. Please save the dates:
Sat 10 June: Pre-service breakfast, 09:15 Welcoming new members, and celebrating volunteers and volunteering at Alyth. In partnership with the Jewish Volunteers Network. Followed by a choice of three services, all of which include substantial lay involvement, Kollot, Tefillateinu and Gesher.
Sun11 June: The Amazing Alyth 90 Adventure, 10:00 A special morning for primary school age children, including those at SMG. Journey through 9 decades of Alyth life on the Alyth minibus time machine.
Mon 12 June: ‘The Alyth Social’ Alyth 90 Special, 14:00 The Art and Architecture of Alyth with Rabbi Josh
Thur 15 June: Alyth Online Lecture: Rabbi Dr Leo Baeck, 19:30 With Professor Michael Meyer, Hebrew Union College, Cincinnati A special online lecture with the world’s leading authority on the history of Progressive Judaism, author of a recent biography of Alyth’s first president Rabbi Dr Leo Baeck.
Fri 16 June: Intergenerational Baby Den,10:30 Inviting our youngest members and their parents and grandparents to chugalug into Shabbat together, joined by special guests from among our oldest generation. Fri 16 June: 90th Anniversary Erev Shabbat service,18:30 As in 1933, this year 16 June is a Friday night. Join us for an extended Erev Shabbat Service to celebrate 90 years since the first Alyth service, with pizza, pimms and prosecco reception to follow.
Sat 17 June: Alyth Archives Breakfast Shiur, 09:15 The opportunity to look together at some of the Alyth archives Followed by a Shabbat Morning Choral Service or special Big Bang 90 service Sun 18 June: Alyth 90 Concert, 17:00 A celebration of choirs and choral music at Alyth With the Alyth Synagogue Choir and special guests: Alyth Choral Society, Interfaith Choir, Refugee Drop-In Choir and Alyth Youth Singers from the generations.
FOR YOUNG FAMILIES IN PERSON Baby Den (10:30) Chug-a-lug into Shabbat. Sing your favourite Baby Den songs, dance to a Shabbat beat and wave to some familiar faces. For families with Young Children.

Today: Piano Recital: Myungham Kim will join us from the Guildhall School of Music to perform Beethoven and Schumann. Myungham Kim is a winner at the Chicago International Music Competition (2018) and Glass Seller’s Beethoven Prize (2022). Born in South Korea and started playing piano at the age of 5, she studied at the Seoul National University with HieYon Choi, and is currently studying on a postgraduate scholarship at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Ronan O’Hora.
