The 10th Annual Alyth Iftar: ‘Stories, Narratives and Myths’ (18:00-21:00)
Over 10 years, Alyth has brought communities together to talk, study and eat at our annual Iftar. We are grateful for the friendships that have grown over the years at this very special event in our annual calendar.
This year’s event will begin at 18:00 as we meet new and old friends and welcome them back into our sanctuary. The formal programme will begin at 18:15 with an opening ceremony followed by a choice of sessions in which Jewish and Muslim teachers will explore different aspects of our theme in a more intimate environment for learning and discussion. This year our Jewish and Muslim teachers will be looking at the theme of ‘Stories, Narratives and Myths’.
We will come together for the call to prayer, finishing in time to share our Iftar meal, which as always will be plentiful and delicious.

We begin our journey to ‘Israel 75’ with a special evening with Colin Shindler, emeritus professor at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).
In his recently published book, ‘Israel: A History in 100 Cartoons’, Colin tells the story of Israel through the work of different generations of cartoonists, mainly from the Israeli press, giving a new insight into the events that shaped the modern State of Israel.
This evening, he will share some of the cartoons and place them in their historical context. Signed copies of the book will be available to purchase on the evening.
