The Fifth Alyth Weekend Away will be taking place next month, from Friday 2 to Sunday 4 December. Bookings for the Weekend Away close this Thursday. We have a few rooms available for members to stay over the weekend, as well as the option of coming for a day on Shabbat for those who wish.
What is the idea of the Weekend? The Weekend Away is the perfect opportunity to deepen your relationship with the Alyth community: to meet new people, to get to know other Alyth members, the staff team and clergy; to feel ownership of your synagogue, your community and your Judaism.
STOP PRESS: SPECIAL GUEST We are delighted that joining us on the Weekend Away will be Rabbi Professor Lawrence Hoffman, who will be with us on the Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Larry Hoffman is one of the world’s leading thinkers and teachers about Jewish prayer and communal life. He is the Professor Emeritus of Liturgy, Worship and Ritual at Hebrew Union College in New York, and author of books including Rethinking Synagogues: A New Vocabulary for Congregational Life; The Art of Public Prayer: Not for Clergy Only; and the My People’s Prayer Book series. Where is it taking place? This year’s Weekend Away is at the beautiful High Leigh Conference Centre in Hoddesdon, about an hour from Alyth by car and accessible by train to Broxbourne. We have exclusive use of the site, which includes beautiful lounges and grounds to walk in. Click here for a Virtual Tour of the venue
Who is it for? The Weekend Away is for the whole Alyth community. There is something for everyone over the course of the weekend. Please note that children under 16 must come with a parent or carer.
What will we do? The programme will speak to our whole selves, with the opportunity to explore new activities, learn new skills and to pray and learn with community. As well as services, meals and learning, there will be a variety of outdoor and indoor activities to choose from, or just read the newspaper with a cup of coffee looking out over 40 acres of beautiful land.
What is there for children? The Youth and Education team and madrichim (our Alyth trained youth leaders) will be on hand through the weekend running a programme for children during the day and in the evenings. For those with younger children, there are family rooms, with aspects of the programme for young families, and we can also arrange baby listening in the evening.
How do I sign up? Contact sam@alyth.org.uk to reserve your place. We recognise that household budgets may be stretched this winter. Please do not allow finances to be a reason not to attend the Weekend Away! If you are unable to be with us for the whole weekend, then you can come for part of the weekend. Contact sam@alyth.org.uk for more information or to book your place or visit www.alyth.org.uk/weekendaway2022.
