Alyth Online and In Person - Covid Update

Every time we gather together, we run the risk of transmission.  This is especially true at the moment, with Covid prevalence still very high. 
To come into Alyth is to enter a Covenant of Responsibility in which we commit to working to keep each other safe.  We do this through three main 'pillars' of Covid protection: 

Pillar 1
Working together to prevent Covid coming into the building
The best way to make sure that we are all safe at Alyth is to avoid bringing Covid into the building. This means:
- Not coming if you are at all unwell, or if you have tested positive and are within the isolation period.
- Making sure you don't have Covid by taking a Lateral Flow Test up to 24 hours before coming to Alyth.  This is especially important for those who are not fully vaccinated.  Please be aware that you may be asked for proof of vaccination or a negative test on entry to the synagogue.

Pillar 2
Wearing a mask
Wearing a mask is one of the best ways that we can protect ourselves and the people around us.  It remains government advice that we should wear a face covering indoors where we come into contact with others who we do not normally meet.  
Please remember to bring a mask with you when you come to the Alyth building.
- You will be required to wear a mask when moving around the Alyth building.  This is when we are most likely to have face to face contact with others and when, as individuals, we cannot exercise control over who we encounter or how closely.
- We strongly encourage that masks be worn at all other times. 

Pillar 3
Ventilation
Ventilation is one of the most important factors in preventing transmission of Covid.  During November and December last year, we monitored air quality in our Beit Tefillah to ensure that there is adequate ventilation with fully open windows.  
Please be aware that windows will be open for all Alyth activities and dress appropriately.

Please note that we are still asking members and friends to pre-book for services so we can manage capacity and avoid overcrowding.  We also have additional protocols to prevent surface transmission.

HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL DAY

Thursday 27 January
National Ceremony (19:00)
Holocaust Memorial Day is an international day of commemoration to remember the millions of people murdered in the Holocaust, under Nazi Persecution, and in the genocides which followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, and Darfur.
The UK Ceremony for Holocaust Memorial Day 2022, which this year will include a contribution from Rabbi Josh, will be streamed online on Thursday 27 January at 7pm.

Tefillah Lab: Experimental Service using a Humanist Liturgy (10:30) 
Alyth is a community of diverse theologies, in which we invite everyone to search for meaning and engagement with Jewish practice and prayer through new and creative services. 
This special service with Rabbi Josh will use a specially designed liturgy - one which expresses the core ideas of the prayerbook while not including explicitly theistic language.  We will take time to reflect on our experience as we do so.  We will also explore different ways of understanding the idea of law and commandment, in relation to this week's Torah portion, Mishpatim.
