LEARN WITH US ONLINE Elul Half Hour (17:30 - 18:00) Ben Azzai who ‘looked and died’ Elul Half Hours are short sessions of reflection, study and contemplation before Shabbat services in Elul. This year, they will run in the second half of the month of Elul. You are welcome to attend all four sessions, or to come to those which interest you. Our starting point for this year’s Elul Half Hours is a rabbinic story - the tale of four sages who enter ‘Pardes’. We do not know exactly what this transformative journey entailed, but we are told the different impact that it had on each of them - one died, another was harmed, the third rebelled, and one found peace. We will take the experience of each of these Sages to explore how we may have experienced the challenges of the last 16 months: the encounter with mortality; the impact on our mental wellbeing; the experience of religious doubt; the possibility of finding peace. This session: Encountering mortality with Rabbi Josh. Click here to join (Meeting ID: 814 3814 2728, Passcode: 083722).

There will be opportunities to say thank you to Sophie for her contribution to the community later in the month.

Afghan Refugee Crisis
Many of us have been moved by the extraordinary scenes in Kabul over the past week, and are looking for ways to respond.
We have been advised that collection of items, which need considerable effort to sort, store and eventually distribute is not the best way to help at this time. Instead, a number of Jewish charities have created emergency crisis appeals.
Please click here to see information about World Jewish Relief's emergency crisis appeal including links to contribute. You can also contribute to JCore's appeal by clicking here
JCore have also launched a campaign with Jewish News and the Refugee Trauma Initiative. #JewsforSafePassage calls on the government to create safe routes for Afghan refugees to the UK. Find out more on the JCore website, or sign their letterhere.

Financial Support - How we can help
We believe that everybody who wishes should feel able to be a member of Alyth irrespective of ability to pay. In these difficult times, please do not leave the shul for financial reasons. If you are facing financial challenges, do not hesitate to contact us.
As well as discussing the level of your annual synagogue contribution, we can help you to access a number of Alyth funds that are specifically here to help our members in times of challenge. Please contact Lynette at lynette@alyth.org.uk or Rabbi Josh at josh@alyth.org.uk
If you feel able to support other Alyth members in financial difficulty at this time, please email Rabbi Josh at josh@alyth.org.uk
Please remember that we also have two special numbers in addition to the main synagogue number: Alyth Careline – 020 8457 8798 This will be answered by a member of the Alyth professional team between 08:00 and 21:00. Emergency Careline – 07726 631808 Please use this number if you need urgent pastoral support, for example in cases of hospitalization or bereavement. This number will be answered by a member of the Alyth professional team.
