Since antiquity, the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem has been marked by the reading of the Book of Lamentations. Yet the often deeply disturbing and explicit imagery can be distressing read and the poetic form of the book can make it less accessible for some readers. But we can find other ways into to studying Lamentations. In this session we will look at an array of art work inspired by Lamentations and listen to the words of the text set to a variety of musical styles, from the 16th – the 21st centuries. This visual and aural journey will help us both explore the book of Lamentations and commemorate Tisha B’Av.
Regular Pardes sessions will continue throughout the summer.

ALYTH IN-PERSON PRAY WITH US Shabbat mornings 8, 15 and 22 August (09:00-10:00) Though outdoor activities are not without risk, the advice is that they are substantially safer than gathering inside. These services will initially take place as an early service on Shabbat mornings, and may then be extended to weekday mornings later in the month and into early September, subject to demand. Places in these services will be very limited and will need to be pre-booked. The services will be subject to strict distancing and protective measures to protect staff and members.

COVID-19 SURVEY OF JEWS IN THE UK Your experience matters
A major Jewish communal survey has been launched this week to gather data about the impact of COVID-19. Conducted by the Institute for Jewish Policy Research (JPR), the survey will gather the thoughts and experiences of Jews living in the UK who are aged 16 and over. If that applies to you, JPR would like to invite you to complete the survey.
This research will gather valuable insights into how the coronavirus pandemic has affected Jews in terms of their health, employment, social relationships and Jewish lives. This will allow us all to understand better the overall impact the virus has had, and provide Jewish charities and organisations working across the community with the information they need to help them respond effectively to the crisis. All data will be held securely and will only be used for research purposes. Personal data will never be shared with third parties. Your individual answers will be treated in the strictest confidence and no individuals will be able to be identified in the results.
