This year's Yom HaShoah - Day of Remembrance for the Holocaust - which begins this evening, will be unlike any other we have known.
Most years we have a very beautiful service in our Beit Tefillah, with music and testimonies, and the opportunity to spend time with our Shoah Book of Remembrance. This year, as we are unable to be together in this intimate way, we will instead be joining two special commemorations - a ceremony led by Reform rabbis, cantors and lay readers from across the country, beginning at 18:30, and the national event following immediately after. You can find the links for both events below.
There are also national events through the day tomorrow, as well as a special Alyth session with our member Moshe Teller from Shalvata starting at 11:00. Moshe will talk about his work with survivors of the Holocaust and the second generation.
As you journey into Yom HaShoah, you might like to read Rabbi Josh's Dvar Torah from Erev Shabbat on the history of the day and its extra significance for us as British Jews - click here. His sermon from Shabbat morning, grappling with 'Mourning in a time of Coronavirus' can be read here.
